Where Your Money Goes
Detroit Phoenix Center is a nonprofit organization that responds to the needs of underserved and street-connected youth in Detroit. DPC supports young people, ages 13-24, through direct services, including a daily drop-in center for young adults (showers, washer/dryer, food pantry, computer lab, day beds, hygiene products, life skills classes etc.), afterschool enrichment program for teens, youth action board, emergency crisis housing, and a scholarship fund. DPC also works diligently for systemic change and contributes to the growing movement to end youth homelessness.
Your Donations Help to Provide:
Transit Passes - $14.40+
One Week Unlimited Pass ($14.40) | Booklet of 10 All-Day Passes ($30) | 30 Day Pass ($50)
The bus system is the most frequent way that our youth are transported to their jobs, housing and other services. DDOT bus passes can be purchased at CVS or the Rosa Parks Transit System.
Grocery Store Cards - $20-$100
$20 will provide breakfast and dinner for two youth.
$100 will provide a week's worth of food for one youth or personal hygiene items for onboarding multiple youth
Gift Cards - $20-$100
Homeless youth do not have money for personal items. Wal-Mart, Target, Kohl’s, etc. cards allow the youth to purchase underwear, socks, personal items, soap, toothpaste and other necessities. We recommend increments of $20 to $100
Diapers and Wipes - $45
$45 will provide a young parent with necessary hygiene products to be able to better care for their child.
Monthly Phone Service - $85
$85 will provide a used cell phone and monthly service so that one youth can connect to housing support and basic needs. Many youth have limited access to information as well as limited means to contact Detroit Phoenix Center, their employers, and school.
Housing and Support Services - $500+
$500 will provide emergency housing and support services for 1 month for one youth.
$3000 will provide Permanent and/or supportive housing for one youth for six months. This will allow them to become self-sufficient by optaining a job and allow them to enroll in an academic or vocational program.
Laptop - $300
$300 will provide us with the funds to secure a basic laptop so that more youth and volunteers will have the ability to apply for jobs online as well as complete their assigned school work.
